1st Workshop on Ethical, Social and Environmental Accounting of Conferences: the case of RCIS 2022

News

ESEA4RCIS has been a success!

We were 19 participants. We spent the whole day discussing very interesting ethical, social and environmental topics related to scientific conferences. From the importance of diversity, equity and inclusion at every level (e.g. authors, attendees, management positions), to factors that affect the CO2 footprint of the event. We also improved the ethical, social and environmental accounting method that we will be applying to the RCIS 2022 conference edition during the next 3 days. We also started with some data collection, although the bulk of the data collection will happen during the 3 days of the main conference and even after it has ended.

But more importantly, we all enjoyed a very dynamic workshop. Everyone was very participative and committed to the goals of the workshop. As one participant expressed “We have worked very hard today but it does not feel like that!”

Acknowledgements: One of the workshop organisers, Tan Le Quang, has received a MSc Thesis Grant from the Bakkenist Foundation, which funded his attendance to RCIS 2022 and, thus, enabled his participation in the workshop.
