1st Workshop on Ethical, Social and Environmental Accounting of Conferences: the case of RCIS 2022

Can I participate?

About participation

Of course you are welcome to participate in ESEA4RCIS; this is a community-based participatory workshop. But, beware, we expect participants and not just attendees. In this workshop, you will collaborate on the ethical, social and environmental accounting (ESEA) of the RCIS 2022 conference.

ESEA4RCIS is co-located with RCIS 2022 and it will take place in Barcelona, on 17 May 2022.

The target audience are researchers that are sensitive to social or environmental topics. Industry practitioners with an interest in impact measurement that would also benefit from the workshop. However, anyone from the RCIS community that cares about the impact that conferences have in their lives and in the world, are likely to be attracted to the workshop.

When considering whether to participate, consider whether you satisfy one or several of these conditions:

  • I am interested in the topic.” If you care about ethical, social and environmental topics related to the RCIS conference series and community, then maybe this workshop is for you.
  • “I want to contribute to assessing the ethical, social and environmental performance of RCIS.” Then you seem to be interested in participating in accounting our performance on those topics, so you will enjoy this workshop
  • “I want to learn more about ESEA and impact measurement.” You will learn by doing. These skills are useful in information science projects, or within academia in general. We will briefly discuss how you could apply ESEA in your own contexts.
  • “I want to do some empirical research.” In this workshop, we are doing research, rather than listening to presentations. Be prepared to participate actively, expressing your opinions, collecting data, calculating indicators, and interpreting the results.
  • “I want to co-author a paper on this topic.” Our plan is to co-author a paper with all workshop participants. Of course, registering is not the same as participating; you are expected to contribute to this research and we will arrange several working groups with different goals, so you can choose the one that suits your interests or capabilities.
  • “I feel committed to the RCIS community and I want us to be positive change-makers.” We believe that this workshop has a unique proposition and that it is tackling a relevant and timely challenge (read more on the motivations here). This is your opportunity to be part of it.

Do you want to participate? Then register through the RCIS 2022 webpage (when that feature becomes available).
